Safari is a 45-year-old married mother of five. She and her husband are small scale farmers who grow food primarily for family consumption.
Safari first began feeling pain in the left side of her groin about 10 years ago. At first, she was able to tolerate it and continue her farming. Two years ago, however, the pain became unbearable, and she noticed a swelling in the same region.
Safari went to a nearby health clinic and bought painkillers, but they didn’t help her much. She also tried local herbs, but after her condition did not improve, she sought out our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), for treatment.
The doctors said that hernia repair surgery would help relieve Safari’s pain. It would also reduce the risk of a strangulated hernia, which could lead to tissue death.
Safari is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on May 24, and the $249 to fund Safari’s procedure will cover the cost of her surgery, medication, and hospital stay.
Safari says, ‘‘After surgery, I will have peace of mind. I am looking forward to continuing my farming without any disturbance.’’
