“I hope my granddaughter can use her arm again after surgery,” shares Dalen’s grandmother. Dalen is a 5-year-old girl living in Cambodia. She has a brother and a sister, and enjoys playing around her home.
In January of this year, Dalen fell down and fractured her right elbow. This causes her pain, and it is difficult for her to use her elbow.
Because the break is so serious, Dalen’s elbow cannot be healed by simply placing it in a cast. She needs a procedure called open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) surgery. In this two-part operation, doctors will first realign the broken parts of her elbow into their proper position. Then, they will place a fixation device (such as a rod or plate) on the bone to ensure that it stays in place as it heals.
Dalen’s parents cannot afford to pay for their daughter to undergo this operation. But we can help. For $405, Dalen can receive ORIF surgery, as well as the two-week hospital stay and five days of physical therapy she’ll need to recover from the procedure.
After her ORIF operation, Dalen will be able to use her arm again—and to get back to playing in her home.
