Vanthorn is a 63-year-old fruit seller. She has two sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren. Vanthorn lives with her oldest daughter who works as a garment worker. Vanthorn used to sell fruit outside of the garment factories, but nowadays she stays at home with her grandchildren.
One year ago, Vanthorn developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her sensitivity to light, blurry vision, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Vanthorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On October 18th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Vanthorn shared, “I hope my eye can see well again so I can go to sell fruits again and earn money to support myself.”
