Menza is a newborn baby boy who lives with his parents and five siblings in Kenya. When Menza was born, the doctor noticed a swelling on his lower back, known as spina bifida. Spina bifida is a condition where there is incomplete formation of the spine, allowing spinal fluid and nerves to protrude from the spine. If not treated, Menza is at a risk of acquiring infection, developing a tethered cord, and paralysis on the lower limbs.
Menza’s parents sought treatment through our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. He is now scheduled to undergo spine surgery to correct his condition on April 28. Unable to afford the treatment, his family is requesting $1,097 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care.
“It is distressing to have a sick child and know that there is nothing I can do about it. Please help my son get treated,” Menza’s mother says.
