Kahigi is a 76-year-old widower and a father of five children—two boys and three girls. Kahigi lost his wife in 1983 and decided not to marry again and looked after his children alone. Kahigi is now staying with his grandchildren in Uganda who help him with domestic work. He is also a farmer, cultivating beans and bananas.
About 14 years ago, Kahigi developed a swelling in a sensitive area. He started using local herbs, but the swelling kept growing. In 2010, he decided to go the regional referral hospital, where the doctor told him that he would benefit from surgery.
Fortunately, Kahigi will receive treatment from our medical partner’s hospital, Holy Family Virika Hospital, on July 19. The surgery will cost $185.
Kahigi looks forward to returning to his normal life after he recovers, saying, “After surgery I will continue working in banana plantation.”
