Tumuhirwe underwent surgery to remove an ovarian cyst.

After a diagnosis of a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst with uterine fibroids, Tumuhirwe successfully underwent a cystectomy and myomectomy surgery so that she will finally be free from lower abdominal pain and backache. She hopes to resume her farming activities and has hope for a bright future ahead.

Tumuhirwe shares, “I came with too much pain yet couldn’t manage the cost of my surgery on my own. Thanks so much for restoring my health and may you be rewarded abundantly.”

Tumuhirwe is 33 years old and is from southwestern Uganda. She had hoped to become a journalist but due to her family’s financial circumstances, she stopped her education after high school. After a divorce, Tumuhirwe returned home to live with her parents and work as a farmer. Tumuhirwe has a large responsibility upon her shoulders: she is the only one caring for her elderly parents and there is limited income from the farms.

For two years, Tumuhirwe has been experiencing lower abdominal and back pains and other troubling symptoms. She feels a palpable, painful abdominal mass that negatively affects her quality of life. She was given some medication hoping the cyst will shrink but to her dismay, it did not. Tumuhirwe visited a gynecologist at Nyakibale Hospital, our medical partner’s care center, and was diagnosed with left hemorrhagic ovarian cyst and uterine fibroids. The doctors recommend for her to have a cystectomy to surgically remove the abnormal mass. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $220 for Tumuhirwe to receive treatment so that the mass does not become malignant and affect her fertility.

Tumuhirwe shares, “I have hopes that once operated, I will lead a normal life and my desire to get a child will be fulfilled.”
