“It would make me happy to receive treatment soon,” 24-year-old Surendra, a native of Nepal, shares.
As a proud husband and father, Surendra supports his family by farming. When the going gets tough, he travels to India to work as a laborer and returns when he has saved up some money. But lately, due to a medical problem, it has been difficult for Surendra to make ends meet, even when working two jobs.
About one year ago, Surendra developed a small swelling in a sensitive area. As the swelling continued to grow in size, Surendra eventually decided to take a two-hour jeep ride to visit doctors at our medical partner’s care center, Bayalpata Hospital.
There, Surendra’s lump was diagnosed as a hydrocele, or excessive fluid accumulation in the membrane of the testicle. Since then, the swelling has increased, and it now causes Surendra pain and makes it difficult for him to walk and work.
Fortunately, Surendra is not without options. On March 1, physicians will perform hydrocele repair surgery, making an incision and draining the extra fluid. Although Surendra’s farming salary means that he cannot afford to pay for this procedure on his own, we can help. For $380, we can sponsor his operation, as well as his lab tests, medications, and three-day hospital stay.
Let’s help this young father regain his health so that he can return to providing for his family.
