Tumwesigye is a 37-year-old from Uganda and mother of three. Together with her husband, Tumwesigye earns a living from farming. Their family lives in a two-roomed semi-permanent house. During her free time, she enjoys attending to her small farm.
For the past three years, Tumwesigye has had a progressive neck swelling that is associated with airway obstruction. When she came to Rushoroza hospital for medical care, she was diagnosed with multi-nodular goitre and it was recommended that she undergo a thyroidectomy. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. After treatment, Tumwesigye will no longer be at risk of further swelling, airway obstruction and chances of malignancy.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Tumwesigye receive treatment. On March 6th, surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $293, and Tumwesigye and her family need your support.
Tumwesigye shared with us, “My condition scares me if not treated. I feel uncomfortable. I will comfortably resume farming once given treatment.”
