Evaline underwent surgery on her leg to allow her to walk with ease.

Evaline has had a successful surgery that has helped release the congenital amniotic banding that was impacting her leg and her mobility. She is now doing well and has already been discharged home from the hospital. Through this surgery, Evaline will be able to walk without the difficulty and without the challenges she was going through before she had this treatment.

Evaline’s grandmother shared, “God bless you all for all the help and support that you have given to my granddaughter. She is now healed and walking like other children with no problem at all.”

Evaline is a charming, smart seven-year-old girl. She knows a lot a fun facts! Evaline is being raised by her grandmother, after her father was upset when she was born with a birth condition impacting her left leg. Her mother decided to have Evaline grow up in the care of her grandmother out of fear of discrimination. Evaline thinks of her grandmother as her own mother and they are very close. Evaline’s grandparents are small-scale farmers who depend entirely on what they harvest for their food. They are able to make small amounts of money by selling vegetables.

Evaline was born with a condition on her left leg called amniotic banding and left clubfoot. She has undergone treatment for clubfoot but is in need of care for her amniotic banding condition. As a result, she has a hard time walking and carrying out daily life activities.

Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Evaline to receive the life changing treatment she needs. On March 2nd, surgeons at their care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, will perform corrective surgery on her left leg, which will allow her to walk more easily. Evaline and her grandparents needs help to fund this $639 procedure.

Evaline’s grandmother says,”This far my granddaughter has gotten through your treatment is a miracle.”

Irenea

Irenea is a 60-year woman from the Philippines. She takes care of her grandchildren and helps with household chores. Her daughter, a vendor, and her son-in-law, a baker, support the family financially. In February 2022, Irenea began to experience troubling symptoms, including intermittent fever and episodes of blood in the urine. She sought a medical checkup and underwent an ultrasound test. The test revealed that she was suffering from gallstones. She opted to take medicine in the hopes that it would cure her condition. Unfortunately, her condition seemed to worsen over time. Irenea has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), Irenea is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on December 16th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising the remaining $826 to cover the cost of Irenea's surgery and care. "This treatment is almost impossible for our mother to receive. Our financial resources are insufficient, so we're incapable to pay for her hospital bill," Irenea's daughter shared tearfully. "To WATSI and World Surgical Foundation Philippines, thank you for this early Christmas gift! Our family is so happy to be one of your beneficiaries," she added.

Victoria

Victoria is a three-year-old girl from Kenya. Victoria is a cheerful, playful girl, who has been raised by her aunties. When she reached walking age, she could not walk. This prompted her family to seek medical attention at a public hospital near their hometown. They were referred to the Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru County, Kenya. Several tests were done, but financial constraints prevented them from returning for the test results. Victoria's medical treatment was further delayed when a relative who was actively supporting and raising her became ill, and all available finances were directed toward their treatment. Recently, Victoria's guardian, who was visiting her grandmother, was advised to seek medical care at BethanyKids. Victoria has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of her condition, Victoria has been experiencing a visibly enlarged head size. Without treatment, Victoria will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $720 to cover the cost of surgery for Victoria that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 8th and will drain the excess fluid from Victoria's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life. With proper treatment, Victoria will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young girl. Victoria’s aunty says, “This kid is active but unable to support herself because of the condition. She needs this treatment to be able to lead a normal life.”
