Jane is a 49-year-old woman from Kenya. She and her husband live on their small farm and tend to the livestock. She is very proud of her children.
In 2007, Jane experienced abnormal uterine bleeding. She was given medication to control the condition until this past December. When she again experienced bleeding, Jane sought treatment at a different facility. She was tested for and diagnosed with cervical cancer. Doctors recommended a hysterectomy, but Jane was unable to afford the cost of the procedure.
“I want to live to see my grandchildren,” Jane says. “And lead a healthier life with fewer troubles.”
Jane was referred to our medical partner’s care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital, in March. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $756 to cover the cost of a hysterectomy. She is scheduled to receive treatment on April 13.
