In 2014, Hok was in a moto accident. He was treated soon after the crash for a broken femur in his left leg, but when Hok visited the Children’s Surgical Centre for a recent check-up, they discovered that the bone has still not healed. The femur is the largest bone in the body, and is essential for walking comfortably and normally.
Hok is a 58-year-old Cambodian man with three sons and two daughters. Hok earns his living by farming. When he isn’t working, Hok likes to watch TV and listen to the radio news.
Hok feels pain when he walks, and this will remain the case until he receives surgical intervention to correct his damaged bone. However, Hok cannot afford to pay for the operation he needs.
For $405, surgeons will perform an open reduction and internal fixation procedure on Hok’s femur. This means that they will make an incision in his leg to realign the fragments of the bone, then will fix them in place with a nail to ensure that they heal properly. The requested funding will also cover the two-week hospital stay and five days of physical therapy that Hok will need to recuperate from the surgery.
After the operation, Hok’s femur will heal and he will regain the ability to walk without pain. Let’s make sure that Hok can walk comfortably someday soon so that he can return to his work and his family.
