Chhen is a 55-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has one daughter, six sons, and many grandchildren. Chhen lives with his wife and their youngest son. Chhen enjoys listening to news on the radio when he’s not working in the fields.
Two years ago, Chhen developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurred vision, irritation, and tearing. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Chhen learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours with his wife seeking treatment. On December 9th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Chhen said, “I hope I can see well so I can plant vegetables around my house. After I harvest rice this season, I can find more work as a day laborer to support my family.”
