Deodanta is a 60-year-old farmer with two sons, and together, their family works on their banana plantation for a living. Sadly, she lost her husband several years ago.
Two years ago, Deodanta began experiencing troubling symptoms including neck swelling, fatigue, heart palpitations and difficulty breathing. Over time, she began losing weight and visited our medical partner’s care center for examination. She was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter, or an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. Without treatment, she will be at risk of further neck swelling, breathing difficulties and other related complications.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Deodanta receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 15th at AMH’s care center where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money.
Deodanta shared, “I see my health getting better after surgery and I hope that with your support, it will really be possible.”
