Karim is a five-year-old preschool student who lives with his parents and siblings. Karim enjoys playing with kids who live near his home and learning from his brother how to paint pictures. His family lives near the Mekong River and sells fish they catch in the market. Even though Karim is young, he likes to help his family however he can at home.
One year ago, Karim began experiencing a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. Karim is unable to eat as much because of the swallowing pain and his parents are worried he is becoming too thin. It is hard for him to speak clearly and breathe easily when sleeping. Karim was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids. If not treated, his symptoms will continue to persist and possibly worsen over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $241 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Karim. The surgery is scheduled to take place on May 18th and surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids. The procedure will hopefully relieve Karim of his symptoms and help him live much more comfortably.
His parents shared that they hope he will recover well from surgery and be able to return to school soon.
