Ruth is a twelve-year-old girl from Kenya. She is the oldest of her single mother’s three children. Her mother is a laborer. Ruth lives at her maternal grandparent’s house with her siblings and mother. Ruth goes to the local primary school, while her younger siblings are yet to join school.
While playing on June 10th, 2016, Ruth fell and fractured her right hand. She had a splint applied after first aid. X-ray images indicated the fracture had not healed and surgery was recommended. Ruth is not able to use her hand to play or to do simple work. If not treated, Ruth will not be able to use her hand with ease, risking permanent disability and possible infections at the fractured site.
Ruth’s family is not able to raise the money needed for her surgery and need our help. For $660, Ruth will undergo treatment so she is able to use her hand again.
“I want to be treated to continue playing and studying to become a journalist,” shared Ruth.
