Khloeng is a 35 year-old rice farmer and father of two from Cambodia. He lives in Phnom Penh with his wife and their son and daughter. His wife works as a tailor in the local market and does most of the childcare while Khloeng works long hours in the rice fields. In his free time, he likes spending time with his family and walking by the river.
On December 4th, 2023, he was driving when something flew off the back of a truck and caused Khloeng to swerve and fall off of his motorbike. He went to a nearby clinic and was diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder. Since the accident, he has also lost sensation in his right arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to lift his arm or use his hand.
Khloeng traveled to Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On February 12th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to restore function to his arm again. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $709 to fund this procedure.
He shared, “I hope I can move my arm like before the accident and be able to do my work and care for my family more easily.”
