Faidhat is an active two-month-old boy. He is the youngest of three children in his family. Faidhat’s parents are both subsistence farmers - cultivating what they can to put food on the table and selling off the surplus.
Shortly after Faidhat’s birth, his mother noticed that his head was growing at an abnormally quick rate in comparison with the rest of his body. She brought him to a local hospital and discovered that Faidhat was born with hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is a condition that causes a build-up of cerebrospinal fluids in the skull, which can result in increased intracranial pressure, delayed development, permanent brain damage, and potentially death.
Seeking treatment through our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, Faidhat is scheduled to undergo brain surgery to drain his head of the excess fluid on April 24. Although his family is able to contribute $49 to the cost of his treatment, he is still in need of $728 to cover the rest of the expenses.
“When Faidhat gets treatment he will go to school when he grows up he will become a doctor so that he can treat children with same condition as his,” shares Faidhat’s mother.
