Abdulai is a charming four-year-old boy from Sierra Leone. He has Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect. There is a hole between two chambers of his heart and a muscular blockage in one of his heart’s valves. Because of his condition, Abdulai’s body is deprived of oxygen, and he is sickly and weak. However, he is very patient with the student doctors that examine his heart, even prompting them to the next part of the examination.
Abdulai is flying to the Cayman Islands with our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance. There, he will receive corrective surgery on November 7, 2016. His family needs our help to pay his $1,500 travel expenses.
Abdulai says, “I am very excited to get my heart fixed and to be able to go to school!”

Abdulai underwent successful cardiac surgery.
Surgeons closed the hole in Abdulai’s heart with a patch and removed the muscular blockage in his valve. Blood now flows normally through his heart and body, and he is no longer at risk of complications from this condition. He is already growing and gaining weight, and he is ready to start preschool.
His mother says, “Abdulai loved everyone he met in the hospital and was so happy to be there. We will miss all of our new friends!”
