Kim is a grandmother from Cambodia. She has five children and twenty grandchildren. She enjoys listening to monks pray on the radio.
One year ago, Kim developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, and watery eyes. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Kim learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On October 3, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure.
She says, “I want to go places by myself and not need my family to hold my hand to take me everywhere.”

Kim underwent cataract surgery.
Kim has returned home after a successful operation. As per her doctor’s instructions, she had one eye done, and will need to return in a few weeks to have surgery on the other eye. Kim’s vision has been restored in one eye, allowing her to go about her daily life with improved vision. Her doctor looks forward to seeing her again in a couple weeks.
She says, “I’m so happy I can see what food I’m eating, and now I am able to walk anywhere without someone holding my hand.”
