Natalia is a 47-year-old woman who lives with her two daughters in Guatemala.
Natalia used to make a living by cooking and cleaning in the houses of people in her community. However, a few years ago she was in an accident in which she lost her leg. Natalia can no longer work and has trouble walking and completing daily tasks. She takes care of household chores by moving around with crutches. Her daughter’s income sustains the family and pays for her youngest daughter’s schooling, but they do not have enough money to cover the cost of a prosthetic leg.
On June 6, Natalia will receive a prosthetic leg. Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, is requesting $1,166 to fund the prosthetic leg, four nights of hospital stay, and transportation. Receiving this prosthesis will change Natalia’s life, for she will be able to move around with ease and confidence.
Natalia says, “My hope is to be able to walk freely and do the same things that I could before. I know that it is very difficult, but with your help and the strength of God I know I will overcome. I have not been defeated.”
