Muhindo is a 63-year-old man from Uganda. He is married and has 13 children. Muhindo and his wife are farmers, and they cultivate food for sale and for home consumption.
In 2012, Muhindo started feeling intermittent pain around his umbilical region. At first he thought maybe something bit him while he was in the garden digging. He went to a nearby clinic and bought painkillers and an ointment, which relieved his pain for a while. However, later the pain came back and Muhindo couldn’t continue working. When he was bathing, he noticed a swelling in the same region and decided to come to Holy Family Virika Hospital. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. If not treated, Muhindo may suffer hernia twisting and blocking.
On September 20, Muhindo will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has requested $249 to fund Muhindo’s procedure. This will cover the full cost of treatment, including a 3-night hospital stay, labs, supplies, medication and surgeon time. After surgery, Muhindo hopes to resume farming.
