Dalis is a three-month-old baby and the only child in her family. She was born with clubfoot, a condition in which her feet are twisted out of shape.
Dalis’s family traveled across Cambodia for eight hours to visit our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), so she could undergo clubfoot treatment. On February 18th, surgeons will perform a bilateral tendon achilles lengthening (TAL) and casting. Upon recovery, Dalis’s legs will be straight and she will be able to walk and run as she grows older. CSC is requesting $385 to fund this procedure
Dalis’s mother shared, “I hope her legs can be corrected, and she will recover well.”

Dalis underwent clubfoot repair surgery so she can walk as she grows up.
Dalis’ parents were very concerned that their child would never walk but were assured by the expertise of our medical partner’s surgical team. Dalis will recover in the hospital for several days and will keep a cast on both legs for six to eight weeks as her tendons heal. She will receive rehabilitative therapy for strength and range of motion. Because Dalis is not yet walking (developmentally), surgeons are hopeful she will grow up without any physical symptoms, pain, difficulty walking, or discrimination.
Dalis’ mother said: “We are relieved that Dalis will have the opportunity to walk normally when she is older. She can be like other children and have a good life. Thank you to the donors who helped to pay for her surgery because we could not afford the care.”
