Lath is a 61-year-old farmer from Cambodia. Her husband also makes a living as a farmer. She has five children (two sons and three daughters), all of whom are married.
For the last twenty years, Lath has had a persistent ear infection in her right ear. This infection has caused the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, to perforate. As a result, Lath experiences ear pain, recurrent discharge, tinnitus (perception of ringing in her ear), and hearing loss. It is difficult for her to communicate clearly with others, and they with her. Lath has gone to the government hospital for treatment, but her symptoms have not improved.
On January 12th, Lath will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear at our medical partner’s care center. During this procedure, surgeons will finally close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $464 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
Lath shared, “I hope that after my surgery, there will be no more discharge anymore and that my hearing will improve.”
