Vipha is a two-year-old boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents, who are farmers, and his two older brothers. He has not started school yet, but he likes to listen to his brothers do homework and is already learning a lot from them. He also loves playing phone games and playing outside with his parents.
Vipha has had torticolis of the left side of his neck since he was born. This condition causes tendons on the left side to be shorter than those on the right, tilting his head to the side. It is difficult for him to rotate his head or tilt it the other way, and he occasionally feels neck pain.
Vipha and his parents have come to Watsi’s Medical Partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), where doctors will perform a tenotomy procedure to cut and lengthen the left side of his neck. After recovery, he will be able to rotate his head and easily keep it straight, and his neck will then develop normally.
Vipha’s mother said, “I am glad that this surgery can help my son. I hope he can soon feel free to play sports with other children, and not feel any pain in his neck.”
