Desire is a hardworking 51-year-old teacher from Uganda. She has four children: two sons and two daughters. She works as a primary school teacher for children who are hard of hearing. Her husband is also a teacher, and he works at a private secondary school. She shared that together, they earn just enough income to meet the daily needs of their family.
For some time now, Desire has been experiencing troubling symptoms, including abdominal and back pains. After seeking medical attention, she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, which are tumors that grow on the uterus. To help her condition, she must undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), is requesting $219 to fund Desire’s surgery. On July 12th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMHF’s care center. Once recovered, she will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Desire says, “I hope to get better after surgery and continue hustling to keep my family up, as I have always done.”
