“Thank you for this help,” says Lawrent. “I am ready for this pain to end.”
Lawrent is a 42-year-old man who lives with his wife and four children in Malawi. Lawrent works very hard tending his land and raising livestock to provide for his family. In what little spare time he has, he likes to talk with his friends in the village.
In June of this year, Lawrent developed a painful umbilical hernia. This means that some of his intestinal matter has pushed through the umbilical hole in his abdomen, creating a bulge. The pain has made it hard for Lawrent to work. Furthermore, if his hernia isn’t treated soon, he runs the risk of developing fatal complications, such as strangulation (when part of the intestine becomes cut off from blood flow).
Fortunately, though, there is hope for Lawrent. Hernia repair surgery can relieve his discomfort and save his life. Although he cannot afford the $334 necessary for his procedure, lab tests, and hospital stay, we can raise that money for him. Lawrent will receive his much-needed surgery on August 2.
Lawrent was relieved to hear that he could be treated. He is looking forward to having his procedure so he can continue to farm his land and provide for his family.
