Lun is a 65-year-old rice and vegetable farmer from Cambodia. She has five children and ten grandchildren. Her husband recently passed away, so she is living with her daughter. In addition to her work, she takes care of her grandchildren and does housework. In her free time, she teaches her grandchildren and listens to prayers on the radio.
Two years ago, Lun developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, tearing, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Lun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours by taxi seeking treatment. On June 3rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $425 procedure.
Lun said, “I want to see enough that I can go outside by myself and recognize where my grandchildren are playing. I hope that I can also go back to working and helping my daughter in the house. Someday I will go to join a ceremony at a far-away pagoda too.”
