Thavy is a 54-year-old farmer who is married with eight sons and six grandchildren. She enjoys watching TV dramas, partaking in pagoda ceremonies, and listening to the monks pray.
One year ago, Thavy developed a cataract in each eye. A cataract is a condition in which the lens of the eye becomes progressively cloudy, causing blurry vision, tearing, and photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light). It is difficult for Thavy to recognize faces, do any type of work, and go anywhere on her own.
Thavy traveled one hour to reach our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. On May 22, Thavy will receive cataract surgery to replace her lenses with artificial ones. CSC is requesting $292 to cover the total cost of the surgery. After this procedure, Thavy will see clearly again and be able to enjoy her favorite activities once more.
