Brian, a two-year-old boy from Kenya, is the first born in a family of two children. “He lives in a remote village where he does not have access to health care facilities that can treat his condition,” shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Brian has cryptorchidism, a condition in which neither of his testes descended into the scrotal sac after birth. Thus, his parents have brought him to our partner to seek specialized treatment.
Brian’s condition has worsened, causing him severe pain in his lower abdominal area. “His parents are among those unfortunate parents who see their child bearing the pain of a congenital disease,” shares AMHF. “Sometimes, they wish they could feel the pain on behalf of their child,” continues AMHF. In addition to the pain he feels, Brian is likely to develop testicular cancer, a hernia, or infertility in the future if left untreated.
Brian’s mother is a stay-at-home mom, and his father is a subsistence farmer. “They are therefore not able to raise the funds required for his surgical care,” says AMHF. Brian needs a double orchidopexy procedure, during which doctors will surgically move the undescended testes to the scrotum and fix them in place. For $570, this operation will greatly reduce his risk of the aforementioned complications. Brian’s parents have already contributed $104 for their son’s surgery.
“It pains us to see Brian in so much pain,” says his father. “I hope he gets treated and lives a normal life.” Let’s help Brian become pain-free and healthy!
