Sokhorn is married and has one son and two daughters. Her eldest daughter is 21 and attends university in the capital city, her son is 18 and in 12th grade, and her younger daughter is 14 and in 8th grade. Sokhorn and her husband are both rice farmers. At home Sokhorn enjoys cooking for her family, exercising, and watching TV.
On January 3, Sokhorn fell down stairs and dislocated her left elbow. After the accident she sought traditional Khmer treatments but her elbow did not improve. Her neighbor told her to come to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) as she is still in pain and cannot extend her left arm. Surgeons will perform an open reduction procedure to treat the fracture and now her family needs help raising $412 to fund her medical care.
Sokhorn shared, “I am thankful that I can return to work and feel well again after this surgery.”

Sokhorn underwent elbow surgery so she can use her arm.
Sokkhorn and her family traveled five hours to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), where doctors corrected her fractured elbow that has caused her so much pain. She rested in the hospital for several days with her arm elevated to reduce any swelling; she will keep her arm immobile for several weeks. The physiotherapy team gave her exercises to increase the muscle strength and flexibility of her arm, which she will be able to start once she can move her elbow again. Surgeons are hopeful her ulnar nerve was not damaged and will watch her carefully for signs of further nerve damage. Although it may take up to two months for her to heal completely, she is pleased with her care and hopes her arm will return to normal soon. This will improve her life because she is anxious to help her husband in the rice fields, and cook for her family again.
Sokkhorn said: “I am so happy that the surgeons were able to fix my arm, it has been so painful and I could not feel my fingers. Now I can look forward to caring for my family again and taking care of myself. Thank you to those who supported CSC so I could have this surgery and go back to my family.”
