Brian is a two-year-old boy from Kenya. He is an only child, and his mother works by doing laundry in their neighborhood.
Brian has been in the hospital for close to three months. He was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at birth, a condition where excess fluid accumulates in the brain, making it swell. Brian had a shunt, or hollow tube, inserted to drain the fluid. All was okay until a few months ago when Brian came down with multiple episodes of vomiting in a day, fevers, and on and off upper body twitches lasting around five seconds. His mother brought him to the hospital, where the shunt was found to have malfunctioned. Brian also had an infection. The infection has cleared and now a shunt replacement surgery is needed to drain the fluid. Brian’s procedure is scheduled for November 7th.
Brian’s mother said, “It has been quite a journey for us but the love we get day in day out here (the hospital) is immeasurable.”
Watsi is requesting $634 to fund Brian’s procedure.
