Favour is a beautiful baby who is suffering from hydrocephalus. Favour’s mother was rescued from early marriage by a local Catholic church when Favour was only three months old. After the rescue, she was supported to go back to school while Favour was left under the care of her grandmother.
The social worker who helped the mother saw Favour and noticed that her head was larger than it typically would be. She talked to the grandmother and they brought her to BethanyKids Hospital early this year for examination. Scans were done and she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure.
As a result of her condition, Favour has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Favour will experience severe physical and developmental delays.
Her family does not have any extra source of income or insurance to help cover the cost of treatment. So our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $720 to cover the cost of surgery for Favour that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 21st and will drain the excess fluid from Favour’s brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life. With proper treatment, Favour will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young girl.
Favour’s grandmother says, “Currently I’m unable to work well because of my grandchild’s condition. It would really make a great difference when she is treated.”
