Nyunt is a 60-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her family on the east side of the country. A widow, she has two daughters and one son. Working at a daycare housed within her village’s school, Nyunt earns no income except occasional small sums that the parents of the children volunteer.
“Even though I do not receive a fixed income, I am very happy to work as a daycare worker,” says Nyunt.
In early August, Nyunt began to feel a tightening in her chest whenever she ate. When she pressed down on the area, she was able to feel a hard lump. Soon after, Nyunt began to feel very unwell, and her son brought her to our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot General Hospital. Medical personnel performed an ultrasound, the results of which have caused them to suspect that Nyunt is suffering from liver abscesses and a tumor. A CT scan is required in order to confirm this suspicion.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $414 to fund the cost of Nyunt’s procedure. She is scheduled for a CT scan on September 14 at our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot General Hospital. After this procedure, doctors will be able to determine the next steps for her treatment.
