Ang is a 73-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Ang has two sons, two daughters, and twelve grandchildren. Lately, Ang has spent most of her time looking after her grandchildren while their parents go to work. She loves to play with them outside, make them healthy meals, and clean the home.
Five months ago, Ang developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and a subsequent loss of independence. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Ang learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three-and-a-half hours seeking treatment. On May 11th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Ang said, “I enjoy watching my grandchildren grow up, playing with them, cooking for them. But that is so hard now. I hope that this surgery helps me to heal quickly so I can do these things.”
