Meet Aly, a 45-year-old father of four from Mali. Aly has a fractured femur - the leg bone located above the knee.
“Nine months ago, Aly was in a motor vehicle accident on his way to visit the village of his birth, where he was traveling to visit his parents,” reports our medical partner, Project Muso. “He was brought immediately to a traditional healer. Aly passed the subsequent long months without improvement. His physician now recommends an operation to treat his unhealed fracture.”
Prior to the accident, Aly was a baker. “He is passionate about his work, which he has done for 15 years, giving his best effort each day. His wife sells vegetables in the local market. Aly is unable to pay for treatment with his modest income. He says that in his current state, he feels “useless”,” continues Project Muso.
For $1280, we can fund an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgical procedure to heal Aly’s fractured leg. Aly’s doctor is optimistic about the surgical outcome and shares: “The surgery has a high likelihood of success, enabling Aly to walk again, to work again, and to become independent.”
