Ibrahim recently had to stop going to school when his leg deformity made it too painful to walk the distance. Ibrahim has bilateral genu valgus, commonly called “knock-knee,” which causes his knees to angle in and touch each other. The pain this puts on his knees makes it hard for him to walk. It also predisposes him for early osteoarthritis if the misalignment of his joints is not treated soon.
Ibrahim says, “I have always admired my mathematics teacher. If I get the chance to study some more, I’d like to become a teacher.”
To go back to school, Ibrahim needs a corrective osteotomy surgery. His parents cannot afford the treatment, so it’s up to us to get Ibrahim back in school and pursuing his dreams!

Ibrahim received surgery to correct knock knees and enable him to walk normally.
After surgery, Ibrahim had long leg casts for six weeks. He is now doing physical therapy, and says he is amazed by how much straighter his legs look! Even though his walking isn’t perfect yet, he is very happy that his knees aren’t hitting together anymore, and looks forward to learning how to use them in everyday life.
“In a matter of time, I can go back to school. I am very thankful,” Ibrahim told our medical partners when they caught up with him during a follow-up.
