“I hope to be able to walk again,” Santa shares. “That way I will be able to go to church and to the park.”
Santa is a 64-year-old woman from Guatemala. She used to work both as a food vendor in the local market and as an agricultural laborer in the fields with her husband. With their combined earnings, Santa and her husband were able to raise five daughters.
However, some years ago, Santa was in an accident and lost her leg. After this, Santa could no longer walk or leave the house, let alone work. These events were a major blow to the family’s finances.
Now reduced to the single income of Santa’s husband, the couple cannot afford to buy a prosthetic leg for her. But we can change that. $1,166 of fundraising will purchase a custom-made prosthesis for Santa, as well as the fitting sessions—set to begin on June 6—necessary to ensure that the leg fits her perfectly.
Receiving this prosthesis will change Santa’s life. She will be able to move around with ease, which will help her in her daily domestic tasks and allow her to leave the house more often.
