Sokheap is the only child of a single mother. He is in the second grade, and like many young boys around the world, his favorite activity is watching TV with his friends.
Sokheap is having trouble in school, however, because he was born with six fingers on each hand. As a result, it’s hard for him to write, play games, or operate with the same dexterity as his peers. Without medical care, Sokheap’s abnormality will likely turn into a life-long disability.
Luckily, Children’s Surgical Centre can perform a relatively straightforward surgery to remove Sokheap’s extra digits and enable him to use his hands and fingers normally. The surgery only costs $300, but in a community where the average person lives on less than $2 a day, this is an insurmountable barrier. We need to raise the $300 Sokheap needs to access this medical treatment and grow up normally.
