Savoeun is a 46-year-old rice farmer. She is married with two daughters and one granddaughter. She lives with her sister, her husband - who is a construction worker - and one daughter who is also a farmer. When she has free time, she likes to go to the pagoda with her sister.
One year ago, Savoeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her difficulty walking by herself because of her cataract because she only sees shadows.
When Savoeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 2nd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope after surgery I can see well again. I want to work again in the rice field and see all the faces of my family and friends,” she shared.

Savoeun underwent cataract surgery so she can stay independent in life.
Savouen traveled with her husband on slow bumpy roads to have successful cataract surgery at our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre. After her eye fully heals, she will return to working in the rice fields to help support and feed the family.
Savoeun’s husband said: “I am relieved my wife will be able to see well again. She was very unhappy because she could not go outside by herself and was afraid she would fall. She can be more independent and take care of our children and grandchildren. I would like to thank everyone who helped to pay for her to have this surgery.”
