Alinda is a two-year-old boy from Uganda. His elder brother is in nursery school, but Alinda is still too young for school. Alinda’s mother is a small scale farmer.
At two months old, Alinda developed a swelling in his right scrotum. Alinda’s mother thought it would go away with time. However, when Alinda was six months old, she realized that the swelling was increasing and she became worried. In August, she decided to take him to the regional referral hospital, where he was diagnosed with a right hydrocele and referred to Holy Family Virika Hospital, our medical partner’s care center, for a hydrocelectomy. If not treated, Alinda may suffer continued pain and discomfort as the swelling grows.
On September 6, Alinda will undergo a hydrocelectomy. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has requested $185 to fund Alinda’s procedure. This will cover the full cost of treatment, including a three night hospital stay, supplies, labs, medications, and physician time.
