Meet Kyomuhendo, a 42-year-old woman from Uganda.
In 2013, Kyomuhendo had a C-section that resulted in a hernia in her abdomen, causing abdominal pain and swelling. A hernia occurs when part of a tissue or organ bulges through the abdominal muscle. This can be dangerous if the tissue loses oxygen and dies, which is called strangulation.
According to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), Kyomuhendo is unable to work and spends most of the time resting.
Kyomuhendo is a divorced mother of six. Before she fell ill she worked as a cook in a hotel. Her condition makes it impossible for her to lift heavy objects or work fast, so she was forced to leave her job, making it difficult for her to afford surgery and pay for her children to go to school.
$220 will fund a procedure in which AMHF doctors will push back Kyomuhendo’s herniated tissue through the abdominal wall to its proper place. After surgery, Kyomuhendo will no longer have pain or swelling, and will be able to return to work. Let’s help make it happen!

Kyomuhendo successfully underwent an abdominal hernia repair.
Kyomuhendo’s hernia repair was a great success. Although the surgery was delayed for some weeks while the hospital procured the mesh needed for the procedure, Kyomuhendo underwent a procedure to push back her herniated tissue through the abdominal wall to its proper place. There is no more life-threatening risk of intestinal incarceration, strangulation, or obstruction. What had been causing her pain and uncomfortable swelling was treated with this procedure, allowing her to return to an active life after recovery.
“I feel good,” Kyomuhendo said. “I am very happy for becoming myself again. I have lived with a big hernia for a long time. It’s unbelievable that the big belly has been repaired; now it looks normal.” She looks forward to returning to work and regaining the ability to support her family and send her children back to school.
“Thank you very much for the act of love and kindness you’ve done for me,” she added. “God bless and reward you abundantly.”
