Barukumasika is a three-year-old boy from Uganda who lives alone with his mother. He was born with a swelling on his scrotum, a condition which, if left untreated, risks developing into an obstructed hernia. In this type of hernia, the blood supply to the intestines or surrounding tissues may be cut off.
At the hospital, Barukumasika was diagnosed with a reducible scrotal inguinal hernia. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund a hernia repair surgery for Barukumasika, which is scheduled to take place on June 29. If successful, the surgery will prevent the development of an obstructed hernia and greatly improve Barukumasika’s quality of life.
“Thank you Watsi for helping support my child’s surgery, which I would not afford,” says Barukumasika’s mother. “I hope my child will get better, which will provide me with a peace of mind.”
