Smak is a 58-year-old woman living in Cambodia with her husband. She is a mother of three and grandmother of twelve. When she is not spending time with her family, Smak likes to listen to monks pray at the pagoda.
About one year ago, Smak developed a cataract in each eye. These cataracts have caused her to experience limited vision, tearing, and an extreme sensitivity to light. Her visual impairment limits her ability to work and makes her nervous to travel anywhere on her own.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $398 to fund small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant for each of Smak’s eyes. The surgery is scheduled to take place on June 27 and, once completed, will hopefully restore Smak’s vision to its former state and allow her to live more comfortably.
