Theara is a tenth grade student from Cambodia. She has one brother and two sisters. She likes to read, draw, and go for walks. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
When she was an infant, she was burned by a fire on her fingers. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around her burn. It is difficult for her to write and bend her fingers.
When Theara learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On September 14, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to to help her write easily. Now, she needs help to fund this $448 procedure.
She says, “I hope that my fingers will be normal.”

Theara underwent burn repair surgery.
Theara’s surgery went well and she’s been working with the physiotherapy team to improve the mobility and function in her fingers. Surgery will allow Theara to greatly improve her quality of life and allow her to live without pain.
Her mother says, “I am very happy that the operation went well. She can continue her school work easily now.”
