Makara is a 12-year-old student from Cambodia. He has one sister and two brothers. In his free time, Makara likes to play football with his friends and watch animation movies on TV.
About one year ago, Makara was chasing his friends when he twisted his left ankle. His pain and swelling persisted, and Makara was eventually diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles tendon of his left leg and rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints in other areas of the body.
There is pus in Makara’s ankle, causing Makara great pain and making it difficult for him to walk. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), is requesting $224 to fund the surgical treatment of Makara’s ankle, which Makara is scheduled to receive on June 14. While he may need to return to CSC for future treatments, this procedure will greatly help relieve Makara of much of his pain in order to help him get better.
