Kamakune is a 39-year-old mother of three girls and two boys. She is a housewife, and her husband is a trader who deals in spare motorcycle parts. All five of Kamakune’s children attend school, including the oldest, who is a university student.
Five years ago, Kamakune developed a swelling in her abdomen. In October of 2016, the swelling began to cause her acute pain, prompting Kamakune to seek treatment from our medical partner’s care center, Holy Family Virika Hospital. Kamakune said that she was experiencing pain that she had “never had before.”
Doctors diagnosed Kamakune with an epigastric hernia, which occurs when tissue pushes through a weak part of the abdominal muscle. Kamakune needs surgery to repair the hernia and to stop the pain in her abdomen.
Kamakune will undergo surgery on November 9. As soon as she recovers, she plans to start trading in fresh food stuffs in order to support her family. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Kamakune’s surgical materials, medications, and three-night hospital stay.
