Thu Rain is a six-month-old baby boy from Burma. Thu Rain’s mother noticed a small lump at the back of her son’s head shortly after his birth, and upon their discharge from the the hospital, the doctor advised her to take Thu Rain to a neuro-specialist. However, due to financial difficulty, Thu Rain’s mother decided not to.
Since then, Thu Rain’s lump has grown in size and his overall health has begun to deteriorate. His parents saved enough money to take him to our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, where he was diagnosed with having excess sacs of fluid in his skull, resulting in a skull malformation. Thu Rain’s condition could result in the swelling of his brain, seizures, and developmental disabilities if left untreated.
Thu Rain is scheduled to undergo head surgery to drain his head of the excess fluid and correct his skull malformation on April 21. His family is requesting $1,500 to cover the total costs of his procedure.
“I am worried about the success of the surgery for my son, but at the same time, I am very excited to see the changes in my son’s condition afterwards. I believe that it will be easier for me and our family to look after him after treatment. Right now, it’s very hard to look after him because most of the time, I have to carry or cuddle him because his condition makes it very difficult for him to lay down,” Thu Rain’s mother shares.
