Dano is a 3-year-old boy; he lives with his parents, who sell fruit and vegetables in a local market. He likes to play football with other children and ride on his parent’s motorbike with his mother. He is already looking forward to attending school when he is older.
About four months ago, his mother noticed that Dano was complaining of ear pain from his right ear. She saw no discharge, but it was red and swollen and he kept pulling at his ear. A neighbor told her about the Children’s Surgical Centre, so she traveled there for a diagnosis and treatment. Surgeons diagnosed him with a pre-auricular skin pit, a birth condition in which a sinus tract runs under the skin in front of the ear and above the ear canal. If they appear in an otherwise healthy child, they can lead to benign cysts or infections, including small masses known as abscesses. When a child gets repeat infections, a surgeon may recommend complete removal of the pit, as is the case to help Dano feel better.
Their family needs help to fund the procedure and is raising $296 to cover his care at Children’s Surgical Centre.
Dano’s mom said: “I hope my son can have surgery to fix his ear so we don’t have to buy medicines. They haven’t worked. I want him to go to school soon and not have any ear problems.”
