Toeurk is a 45-year-old farmer who is married. He likes to listen to the news on the radio, do housework, and help his wife in his free time.
Toeurk developed a pathological fracture (fracture caused by disease that led to weakness of his bone structure) of his right femur in January 2017. He went to his provincial hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with bone tuberculosis, and he was given medication as treatment. However, his symptoms did not improve. Toeurk then went to a hospital in Phnom Penh, where doctors performed an external fixation procedure. He comes to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), with a swollen leg and an open wound of his femur. Toeurk experiences pain, and he has not been able to walk since January.
Toeurk learned about CSC from a person in his village. He traveled for four hours with his son to reach CSC for treatment. On June 6, surgeons at CSC will perform an above-knee amputation to relieve Toeurk of his pain and help him feel comfortable again.
Now, Toeurk is requesting financial assistance to pay for his surgery costs.
