Oscar is eight-month-old baby boy and the youngest in a family of two children. Both parents depend entirely on small-scale farming of maize, beans and vegetables for a living. What they grow is what they use for food and sometimes they are able to sell a few of their harvests in order to get money to buy other commodities that they need. Oscar’s father also seeks casual laboring jobs on other people’s farms to make extra income and be able to support his elderly father.
Oscar has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Oscar is currently in a lot of pain and in danger of having brain damage due to cerebrospinal fluids accumulation in his head. Without treatment, Oscar will experience severe physical and developmental delays.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $765 to cover the cost of surgery for Oscar that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 31st and will drain the excess fluid from Oscar’s brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Oscar will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy.
Oscar’s mother says, “I have been praying to God to save my son and truly he has made a way. Kindly help our son get treated he has been suffering for a long time.”
